Harriet Tubman Museum and Educational Center
“Keeping the Flame Alive”
The Harriet Tubman Organization is one of the oldest community organizations dedicated to the memory of Harriet Tubman. Over the past three decades, efforts of this institution have included memorials to Harriet, tours to significant sites associated with her life, museum exhibits, educational programming, celebrations and community outreach.
Founded in the mid-1980s, the Harriet Tubman Organization is dedicated to memorializing Harriet and preserving her connection to the local community. The Organization hosts numerous programs throughout the year, including a yearly memorial banquet in March and periodic historical discussion groups.
The dedication of members of this non-profit educational center has benefited the Eastern Shore through community action and efforts to encourage interpretation and research into Harriet’s life and legacy. New exhibits and resources are available during hours of operation, as are volunteer members of the organization who answer questions and provide information on Harriet Tubman and the region. Step-on guided tours of area sites associated with Harriet Tubman are available by appointment. A gift shop and literature about area attractions are also available.
