"Typical Woodland and Marshland"
Walking paths along the streams and wetlands and through the forests are reminiscent of those that travelers on the Underground Railroad passed through. Adkins Arboretum is a 400-acre native garden and preserve dedicated to promoting the appreciation and conservation of the region's native plants along five miles of paths featuring streams, meadows and rich bottomland forest. The Arboretum offers programs year-round in ecology, horticulture and natural history for all ages, including special programming related to survival strategies utilized by freedom seekers traversing these landscapes generations ago.
